Operations Manager

For decades our client has been excelling in their industry.  They are in search for an Operations Manager in the Rochester, Minnesota area.  This individual will have about 90 reports and also serves as one of the primary people of all plant equipment, facilities and resources.  This position also has responsibilities for the planning, execution and management of all production activities.  The client is part of a $200M market leading custom wood products manufacturing and construction company.  Their culture respects the individual in ways we have not seen in our years of recruiting.  It has served them well in their 100+ years in manufacturing. 

Responsibilities:

This 100 person non-union plant, as part of a larger privately held organization, is shaking off its outdated manufacturing methods and bringing in new talent to transform into a stronger, leaner, sophisticated custom wood manufacturing environment.   Three years into this process, progress is accelerating with the new leadership.  This position reports to the Plant Manager now and may lead to a full plant management role in time, either at this plant or other locations.

The Operations Manager provides assurances that all standards are clearly communicated to employees, that process control plans are consistently in place, that all required equipment and devices are available as planned.  Provides for the required training of all Operators, assures that control measures are executed reliably, and holds responsible parties accountable for results.  Utilizes Kaizen, 6 Sigma, and other Continuous Improvement tools (TPS) to improve plant performance.

Optimize the application of the plant's materials resources to meet scheduling requirements.  Meets or exceeds utilization standards, minimizes work in process and finished goods inventories, and maintains variable spending at or below budgeted allocations.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Production Operations Management, and Business Administration
  • Experience in the Lumber/wood products industry required
  • Strong, mature leadership experience
  • Culture change agent
  • Familiar with commercial wood construction and wood fabrication
  • Transformational experience in Lean manufacturing, Six-Sigma, 5-S and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated leadership, team building, and coaching skills.
