As the go-to person in charge of our malt production, your ability to interact with operators, suppliers, customers and management at all levels, as well as the ability to present on technical scientific topics, is essential for success in this position. 

As the Director of Operations based in Shakopee, MN, your educational background in agronomy or plant and soil science, coupled with your professional management experience in manufacturing, will allow you to hit the ground running. You will be a critical player for the Malt Production team working direction with our operations located in Minnesota, North Dakota and Alberta.  Acting as the expert and specialist, you will manage all activities related to operations, development, and processing of company products. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Direct and coordinate malt production, barley receiving and malt shipment operations
  • Manage both supervisory and hourly employees working in round the clock environment
  • Interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work and work scheduling; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Develop process improvement methodologies through the use of scientific techniques
  • Direct and coordinate malting operations, local grain storage and delivery scheduling
  • Respond to operational emergencies and direct in-house and outsourced repair teams
  • Determine need for facility maintenance and repair work and coordinate shutdowns for emergency and periodic inspection and repair
  • Document operational and administrative procedures; make proposals for improvements
  • Train and ensure all assigned employees are aware of and comply with company, government, and customer policies, procedures, and regulations.

Your demonstrated ability to incorporate basic scientific method principles in management and operational decision-making, coupled with your understanding and continued learning in malt production and the distilling processes, will be vital to your success. As a natural self-starter, your savvy interpersonal skills and strategic, innovative thinking will help you solve any issues that may arise and secure the best opportunities.. Your solid understanding of management methodologies such as ISO 9000+, TQM and Six Sigma will be required to do the job effectively.
