R&D Food Scientist

R&D is an important means for achieving future growth and maintaining a relevant product in the market. There is a misconception that R&D is the domain of high tech technology firms or the big pharmaceutical companies. Nothing could be farther from the truth when food manufacturers have become the highbred industry to invest talent for their R&D departments.

Great companies dedicate a significant part of their resources towards developing new versions of products or improving existing.  Today's consumer, are more health-conscience than ever, read labels looking for ingredients that are simple, natural and easy to understand.  More than a quarter of grocer dollars are now devoted to natural/organic foods. 

Due to this trend, our client a grower and processor of healthy ingredients for the food & healthy living industry is seeking a R&D Food Scientist to their team.   Located in central Florida, our client has built a reputation the past 60 years as a leader in the agribusiness industry specializing in plant extracts for healthy & natural ingredients in food and several other categories.  Ingredients our client manufacturers include vegetable & juice concentrates, in powder form for numerous applications.

We are searching for an experienced scientific professional from the food ingredient industry to drive R&D innovation projects, participate in new production development, manage projects, conduct bench work, collect & analyze data, conduct pilot work, collaborate internally and consult with customers. 

This role supports the R&D Director and assists in ingredient development, production scale up and daily execution of R&D related lab (on site) activities.  This person will also evaluate current and alternative ingredients to ensure the ability to meet customer needs and requirements.  Daily collaboration with cross functional team to ensure effective resolution of technical issues.


  • 5 years food ingredient manufacturing experience in a R&D role, a MUST (not flavoring)
  • 4 year degree in Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Science or Engineering, required.
  • Moderate to advanced computer skills, MS Office, Outlook
  • Basic to moderate knowledge of food regulations, Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Point (HACCP) and Food Manufacturing Practices (GMP's)
  • Demonstrated effective written & verbal communication skills including presentation skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated strong organization skills and attention to detail
  • Thrives in a fast paced environment.  Enjoys learning, product development, bench work, customer interfacing, and professional growth & development. 


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, kneel, crouch, talk and hear.  The employee must occasional lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception.  Performs computer keyboarding for data entry on a regular basis.
