1st Shift Production Supervisor (Bilingual - Spanish/English)

We are currently searching for a 1st shift Production Supervisor for our custom kitchen cabinet manufacturer client located in Norwalk, CA.

 

The Production Supervisor is responsible for supervising shop employees in the manufacturing area and the accomplishment of his/her area objectives. This position performs work as assigned by the Production Manager, plans and assigns work, maintain and respects policies and procedures.

 

Essential Functions

Ensure employee safety by conducting periodical daily safety inspections, process audits and safety meetings, performs accident investigations when required.
Ensure effective employee relations by providing employee feedback, coaching, training, and development.
Works to continuously improve and meet targets on: safety, quality, productivity, cost and morale, through the implementation of effective policies and procedures and makes sure they are followed by everyone.
Manages departmental performance indicators, including visual controls and provides daily reports.
Drive labor efficiency improvement.
Drive Scrap/waste reduction.
Maintain proper inventory levels.
Controls absenteeism.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages all employees  (up to 45) of the department and is responsible for the performance management within that department, including but not limited to each of the following:

Ensure employees are working in a safe manner and in compliance with applicable safety rules and procedures.
Conduct employee evaluations and make recommendations regarding promotions, rotation, and/or raises, as well as apply disciplinary action as needed, including issuing oral warnings, written warnings, suspensions or termination.
Guarantee the daily achievement of the production schedule with the expected quality and cost.
Implement and observe Company Policies and Procedures.
Determine manpower needs by reviewing workload requirements and make recommendations to Production Manager regarding hiring new employees or transferring existing ones to other areas.
Continuously improve labor efficiency and utilization, make recommendations regarding labor reduction.
Initiate corrective action, verbally and written, daily where goals are not being met. Inform supervision of potential problem areas.
Thorough visual inspection of equipment and review of parts usage, production data and down time, determine if preventive maintenance and proper operating procedures are being followed. Take appropriate action as required.
Develop training procedures to ensure that associates fulfil their job assignments in a correct manner following all applicable Policies and Procedures.
Review and approve any vacation or other time off for department employees.
Maintain a 5S’s status on his/her area
Responsible for the good use of materials, equipment, tools and installations by department personnel.

 

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.  All appropriate personal protective equipment will be provided.

Employee must be knowledgeable and able to train and supervise department employees on the use of various equipment such as the following machines and/or tasks:

Fork lift
Staple gun
Finishing equipment
Press table/clamps
Hand sander
Table saw
Rip saw
Skill saw
CNC machinery
Router
Shaper
Panel saws

 

Physical Demands

LIGHT - Exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those of sedentary work. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
