Job Function Skills

The Continuous Improvement (C.I.) Engineer must be proficient in understanding objectives and be capable of developing a plan to meet them.  This individual must be able to execute the following:

Collect, Utilize and develop shop metrics to identify waste reduction opportunities.
Plan, coordinate and organize resources to drive process improvements within the plant.
Implement Improvement projects with the use of Kaizen, Six Sigma, BPI, PPK, 5-S, Standard Work, and other Continuous Improvement tools.
Develop formalized C.I. skills within our leadership team through formalized training, shop floor engagement and formalized project participation.
Collaborate with Plant Leadership on critical opportunities
Develop ROI justification for Improvement Projects and Capital Projects.
Ability to present ideas and plans to all levels within the organization.

Leadership Skills

The C.I. Engineer must be a strong teacher and developer of others, regardless of the skillset of the individual being mentored.  In the area of leadership, it is essential that the C.I. Engineer:

Display a proven approach to coaching and mentoring plant leadership as well as shop floor team members.
Foster an environment where open and honest communication is necessary to drive waste out of our processes.
Effectively deal with difficult issues as they arise.
Effectively challenge current state to drive towards improved processes and results.
Strong floor presence built with a hands-on approach to problem identification and problem-solving activities on the plant floor.

Management Skills

The C.I. Engineer needs to be a strong communicator, with excellent follow up and time management skills. This individual must organize and prioritize projects, with the help of plant leadership, to effectively execute our C.I. initiatives. To do this, a C.I. Engineer must:

Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Be able to multi-task and successfully manage multiple projects at the same time.
Effectively escalate and work through project constraints and changes to timelines. 

Have strong computer and data population skills.
