Our client is a global food producer supplying better ways to source, prepare and serve wholesome, great tasting meat and seafood. As they continue their growth and make additional investments, we have partnered with them to bring in a Controller for their US based manufacturing facility in the local Chicagoland area.

Responsibilities: The Controller will be the right hand business partner to the CFO and help him drive the company’s growth and serve as a member of the company’s finance and accounting leadership team with direct responsibility for the overall accounting, tax and audit activities. This individual will work within a dynamic culture that combines a high energy work environment with a collaborative approach.

 

Specifically, the Controller will:

Managing Financials– Responsible for the accuracy of all plant financials including production volume, conversion costs, material usage variance, and standard costs. A clear understanding of inventory and the controls process are key. Preparation and review of financial statements, budgets, and forecasts
Reporting & Analysis– Provides accurate, actionable and timely financial reporting, variance analysis, and commentary that leads to an understanding of the business enabling improved decision making and identification of opportunities.
Planning– Partner with the Manufacturing Team on the development of periodic forecasts based on fact or sound judgment. Drive to achieve business objectives.
Capital Management– Supports capital investment requests by providing accurate financial analysis that meets profitability goals.
Projects– Identifies areas of opportunity in the business associated with continuous improvement in areas of financial performance, business acumen, processes, standard work, systems and other areas.  Assist CFO with projects such as acquisitions & mergers.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

BA/BS degree with an emphasis in finance/accounting and 10+ years relevant experience
MUST BE VERY ADAPTIVE—THE BUSINESS EVOLVES AND GROWS VERY FAST!
Food manufacturing experience & Cost Accounting in manufacturing industry–Highly Desired
Strong communications and process skills – able to evaluate and challenge the current state of the business
Detail oriented - able to drive down to a product level to develop an understanding of the business drivers
Ability to effectively influence key decision makers to support recommended areas of opportunity
Manage accounting staff for all accounting transactions
Extremely Strong analytical, research, and financial modeling skills
Proficient computer and Microsoft Office skills with expertise in Excel data compilation and aggregation (i.e. pivot tables, VLookup, and Macros)
Demonstrable self-starter, starting and completing tasks without daily direction
Career-motivated professional who is self-confident, energetic and possesses a strong work ethic
Works well independently and within a team
