Director of DOT Compliance

This position will ensure that all state and federal motor vehicle regulatory requirements are met. As the Director of Driver Safety and DOT Compliance, you will manage, modify, and create programs to ensure the highest compliance with DOT regulations, the FMCSA’s CSA program, and Hazardous Materials and OSHA regulations. The successful candidate will effectively help manage risk, safety, compliance and regulatory requirements. It’s all about avoiding threats and mitigating the effects of those which are essentially unavoidable.

Job Description:

Lead and oversee all aspects of development, implementation, standardization (where appropriate), and management of the Company’s DOT Compliance Programs, including CMV Files, DOT Driver Qualification Files, DOT Drug/Alcohol Programs, Vehicle Inspections, Hours of Service, etc.

Oversee driver and employee pre-employment, post-accident, and random drug testing process.

Prepare and submit required Federal and State DOT Trucking Registrations, Licensing, Compliance Reports, etc.

Seek out industry best practices and more effective and efficient methods to achieve Operational Excellence in Incident Prevention and DOT Compliance.

Pre-employment resume, application, MVR and any other clerical duties required for on boarding of new driver.

Performs daily updates and regularly reviews data in Driver Qualification System for accuracy and compliance.

Stays current on changes to and maintains a library of federal, state, and local transportation and environmental regulations.

Organize and lead the Safety Committee monthly meetings to keep up on trends, regulations and any ongoing issues.

Conduct incident investigations, root-cause analysis, follow-up, and closure of action items, and leverage learning across organization for all vehicle accidents involving Company personnel and/or equipment.

Coordinate internal audit process to ensure compliance with safety policies and regulations and assist with scheduling and administration of external audits.


Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in safety/compliance

Minimum of 3-5 years’ prior management experience in transportation industry

Ability to spend 50-75% of time in the field.

Ability to travel to deliver training up to 50% monthly

Experience and knowledge of transportation specific regulations of the FMCSA and US DOT

Experience with OSHA regulations and reporting

Highest level of employee management

Effective communication and analytical skills, both oral and written including high degree of skill in grammar, spelling and punctuation

Must have ability to be fair, firm, and comfortable with enforcing policies and regulation

Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel and Word

Strong leadership skills

Strong ability to multi-task and remain organized and efficient
