Our client, a custom robotics and automation integrator in southeast Wisconsin, has an immediate need for an Electrical Engineer for their automated systems function.  This Electrical Engineer will work closely with sales and customers to determine technical needs for robotic and automation solutions.  Using Fanuc products, the EE will design, troubleshoot, and debug robots and robotic solutions on a project basis remaining on time and on budget.

Position Summary:

Plan, direct, and coordinate activities of designated projects to ensure that goals and objectives of the project are accomplished within the defined time frame and within budget allowances by performing the following duties personally or through personnel assigned to the project or otherwise enlisted to help.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Design robotic systems including but not limited to electrically related components. Meet project timelines for assembly so that projects are completed on time and within budget.

Troubleshoot/debug robot and robotic systems when needed, either onsite or offsite at customer.

Be present at internal and external project meetings. Effectively communicate with customers to attain information pertaining to the design/build of the project.

Order all parts pertaining to the electrical design of the project and keep accurate records of parts ordered, bill of materials, budget tracking and spare parts list.

Provide accurate supplier product documentation and assist with providing project documentation to customer.

Maintain organization and cleanliness to electrical design/assembly areas. Provide feedback on methods to improve efficiency and quality wherever possible in all aspects of project execution.

As needed, assist Marketing/Sales with preparation of proposals and quotations to represent realistic expectations of capabilities of company while at the same time meeting profitability goals of the company.

Review project profile checklists, project proposals, and project spreadsheet information immediately upon order entry for consistency and relationship to company capabilities.

Evaluate project definition to formulate conceptual design and technical requirements, including analyzing the project for its technical feasibility regarding engineering, product ability, and cost implications. Draw on personal technical expertise to assist and guide team personnel in accomplishing project commitment.

Help control costs associated with support of the product and project commitments to meet budgeted guidelines. This includes helping to establish realistic time expenditure goals to be spent.

Provide inputs to Engineering, Manufacturing, and Management as appropriate to inform them of findings that are significant to designing or developing improved or new products. These may range from excerpts of trip reports to specifically written memos or oral conversations. These must include performance or functional problem or product quality concerns.

Call meetings as appropriate, consistent with company procedures for design evaluations and release meetings to review status and determine/disseminate information on project. Modify schedules or plans as required to maintain required goals within reasonable limits.

Design integrated safety systems that meet all relevant and current safety standards that may apply. In addition, the electrical engineer must perform a task based risk assessment for each project and work with engineering team to ensure the system is being built to those standards.

Be familiar with the use of typical electrical test equipment (multimeter, oscilloscope) and Arc Flash safety.

Ensure that all project related electrical engineering hours/hardware meet the budgeted hours/cost.

Perform other duties as may be assigned.


Education, Experience, Skills, Licenses, and Other Requirements:

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent; minimum of 5 years related experience in design of equipment comparable to systems manufactured by company or in functions of business closely related to the manufacturing processes of these types of systems; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have 3-5 years of recent experience with AutoCAD Electrical design software.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safely rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Licenses and Other Requirements:

Two years of experience with work function related to automation systems.

Organization skills necessary to manage multiple simultaneous projects.

Personal computer literacy with working familiarity of software related to financial an scheduling tracking of projects.
