The FOOD BUYER is responsible for developing and maintaining a supply base that supports the manufacturing procurement needs. This position maintains site specific inventory (raw and packaged goods) and procurement controls for accurate procurement information and inventory of goods for the daily plan. This person also reviews production and adherence to the plan and feedback any issues to supervisor.


Main Duties:

Purchase and replenish all raw materials

Review suppliers to strengthen supply base and establish healthy relationships

Implement sourcing decisions to ensure balance between purchase cost, capacity flexibility and supplier performance.

Ensures rapid, appropriate business response and resolution to all supplier issues.

Provides timely cost and supply information to support the decision-making process.

Mitigates obsolescence by actively participating in product phase-outs.

Acts as the first line of support for plant buying during challenges; ie. missed shipments, shortages of products, etc.

Supports the Quality Assurance and Operations departments by working with suppliers to insure continuous quality improvements and quick product claims resolution.

Supports Supply Chain Planning and Manufacturing Operations in developing raw material/packaging economic order quantities, safety stocks and reorder points. Provides information on unit price, annual volumes, order costs, cost of cash, holding costs and considers all customer raw material/packaging contracts, for each producing facility.

Manages Replenishment KPI's and reports feedback on adverse results.

Manage off site stocks, trucks and deliveries.

This person reports to a manager and has no supervisory responsibilities.


Ideally the candidate would have these qualities:

Bachelors degree in Business Administration or related field OR

2-3 years relevant experience in a similar role.

Food manufacturing experience, a HUGE plus.

Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills 

Must be highly organized and detail oriented.

Must be able to work in a high demand, deadline driven environment.
