The Packaging Engineer will lead and support cross functional engineering projects associated with packaging materials, manufacturing equipment, manufacturing processes, new product and packaging innovation, and sustainability initiatives.

Job Duties: 

Researches, recommends, and implements new packaging concepts and materials from ideation through commercialization in conjunction with established innovation gate process.
Provides technical expertise and leverages packaging industry/supplier expertise on new packaging material and existing packaging specifications across all product and packaging categories.
Drives continuous improvement to optimize filling and packaging equipment performance.
Actively participates in CPG packaging industry events and maintains awareness on technical trends and developments in the food and beverage industry.
Investigates, tests, and validates new technology and packaging equipment and develops financial business case on functionality, sustainability, manufacturing benefits, and automation ROI.
Utilizes structured project management discipline to ensure projects stay in scope, on schedule, and on budget.
Creates and implements engineering designs specific to food and beverage packaging and packaging equipment that will improve manufacturing efficiencies, increase capacity and reduce costs.
Troubleshoots quality incidents associated with physical and chemical packaging performance, and packaging equipment concerns.
Contributes to CAPA investigations using structured root cause methodologies (5-Why/8D).
Oversees new packaging and new packaging equipment factory acceptance testing and plant start-ups.

Responsible for the creation and maintenance of packaging specifications within ERP system.


Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Package Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related Engineering field.

3 to 5+ years of Food and Beverage Packaging experience
SPC & Lean Manufacturing experience.
Working knowledge of a broad range of packaging materials and packaging equipment commonly found within the Food and Beverage or CPG Industries.
Proven project management skills; demonstrated ability to implement changes across multiple functional areas.
Strong problem-solving abilities, judgment and decision-making skills supported by sound technical justification.
Ability to analyze complex information and perform root cause analysis.
Strong numerical skills and analytical abilities with advanced experience in Excel, database products, report writing and other financial reporting and budget processes.
Working knowledge of QuickBooks and Microsoft Dynamics – Just Food applications preferred.
10% international travel requirement
