Process Engineer

We are excited to announce a newly created role for a Process Engineer.  Our client specializes in the European-style cabinetry market since 1989.  Their cabinets are manufactured in Southern California in a state of the art 100,000+ square foot facility with extensive production capabilities to produce a quality product in an efficient and cost-effective manner. 

This position is responsible for manufacturing systems, Lean, design, and implementation. Services provided in cost analysis, process improvement, work and job design to provide best value system solutions for process and business needs. This position is responsible for standard development, root cause analysis, and the integration of process improvement methodologies through the organization. The Process Engineer is accountable for the effective administration of all plant engineering services for the plant. 

Major responsibilities to include:

Provides program support for manufacturing operations

Assist plant in planning production methods including layout, production flow, tooling, utilities, equipment and assembly methods

Analyzes and implements manufacturing processes with planned continuous improvement

Supports proposal efforts, drives cycle time reduction and quality improvement teams, and assists in new product introduction

Identifies, sells, and implements process improvement and cost reduction

Develops methods SOP’s, or measures to ensure processes and procedures are sustained

Develops line layouts to maximize resource utilization

Applies root cause analysis and other problem solving techniques to identify best course of action

Uses statistical methods (including statistical process control, and design of experiments) to collect and analyze data necessary to complete projects

Actively participates in safety process

Works with business leaders to identify and scope new process improvement opportunities in the areas of quality, cost, and service

Develops and maintains detailed process maps, metrics, and control plans for the key manufacturing processes

Develops and delivers project presentations to all levels of management as needed

Documents differences between plant identifying best practices through data analysis, and standardizing those practices by developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

Works with the plant to identify and troubleshoot processing issues taking corrective actions as appropriate

Eliminates waste and streamlines manufacturing flow using LEAN methodologies to reduce overall plant lead times

Drives reliability in plant infrastructure equipment

Manages and executes engineering and capital projects

Works with the leadership team to develop, support, and facilitates Kaizen events to eliminate waste and improve material flow

 

Measures of Effectiveness:

Customer satisfaction

Compliance with safety and environmental regulations

Scrap performance at plant in relation to % goal and $ savings targets

Execution against annual project milestones

Impact of process control on other key performance measures (throughput, cycle time, downtime, etc.)

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have Engineering degree (Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or similar)

Must be bilingual (Spanish/English)

1-3 years manufacturing engineering experience

1-3 years process improvement experience in a manufacturing environment

1-3 years of Project Management / Engineering experience

Strong facilitation and project management skills and ability to lead cross-functional teams

Working knowledge of Process Improvement methodologies, such as, Lean Manufacturing, PDCA, etc.

Analytical, communications, and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office (CAD is a Plus)

Possess excellent leadership, project management

Must demonstrate ability to work in a team-based environment.

Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)

 

Desired Skills Process Engineer:

Familiarity leading from reactionary/preventative repairs to predictive analysis

Experience with Lean Manufacturing concepts  (PREFER Lean certification)

Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt certification is a Plus

Experience with wood machining, sanding, sizing, and profiling

Experience training and coaching others on process improvement methods

 

Physical Demands

Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and handling of objects is required.

This position is often on their feet in the plant and office work- Exerts up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

The use of safety equipment (hearing protection and eye protection) is required daily.
