Process Quality Engineer

Pleasant Prairie, WI

Position plans, designs, implements and optimizes Quality processes throughout the plant. This position is responsible for oversight of the NCR process and works to improve internal and external supplier quality. This position also provides leadership for Continuous Improvement activities.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Implement continuous improvement and lean techniques to improve product quality and process throughput.

Optimize existing manufacturing processes and create sustainable gains through statistical analysis.

Create plans and leads necessary efforts to improve manufacturing process and product design when evaluating non-conformances such as NCRs, SDRs, and RMAs.

Apply standard quality tools such as root cause analyses, A3 problem solving, statistical studies and other problem-solving techniques to identify and evaluating defect generating processes or products. Implement appropriate corrective actions.

Review, approve, and lead efforts to resolve issues with 1st Article Inspections.

Manage inspections for all contract work at the plant in collaboration with Contract Inspection Coordinator.

Coordinate collection of data required for customer witness inspections. Review and communicate with UCC Waukegan QA team. Develop plans to meet these specifications and ensure that they are properly carried out.

Improve and maintain inspection techniques used by P2 staff and provide an organized system to calibrate regularly. Review and recommend improvements to QA Metrology equipment as required.

Submit Engineering Deviation Requests and Engineering Change Requests as they pertain to NCRs, SDRs, and RMAs.

Train plant employees on inspection of external and internal products to comply with engineering drawings, specifications, standards, and good manufacturing practices.

Assist in design-for-manufacturability for product development projects.

5% domestic travel required


Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

At least 2-5 years of experience as either a Quality Engineer/Manufacturing Engineer/Industrial Engineer

Prior experience creating manufacturing processes

Experience leading projects and getting buy-in from process operators, peers and managers.

Experience using inspection tools including but not limited to gages, micrometers, torque meter, hand tools

Experience with a wide variety of codes and standards


Candidate must be able to:

Communicate easily with customers, suppliers, workers and office personnel.

Conduct quality assurance inspections at suppliers.

Develop inspection and test procedures for evaluating non- conformances and provide supporting corrective and preventative actions.

Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods.

Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Problem solve using statistical and lean methods

Read and understand engineering drawings and interpret technical instructions.

Perform stock checks, packaging audits, leak test reviews, generate work instructions, resolve quarantine orders, maintain quarantine inventory and tooling calibration.

Use Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, Outlook)


Preferred Skill:

Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) a plus
