This company is seeking a Product Engineering Systems Administrator for the St. Joseph manufacturing location in SW Michigan. The Product Engineering Systems Administrator will work closely with the Product Engineering team and other functions as necessary to administer existing systems and design/development tools and create new systems and design/development tools where needed.  This function also oversees and maintains the existing intranet infrastructure, adding functionality and features as needed.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES   
Oversee and manage intranet systems and design/development tools as they relate to Product Engineering and other functions, maintaining/updating/enhancing existing drawings and creating new drawings using Solidworks.  Support the classification, storage, and publishing of all engineering standards relevant to Product Engineering while working closely with the Product Engineering team to identify documents and tools that could be added to the intranet.  Building systems that reduce repetitive tasks, add clarity to the process, and enhance product engineering standards are all part of this important support role.

Analyze existing design/product development tools and systems utilized by Product Engineering.  Identify opportunities for improvement and developing new tools where appropriate to advance the design/development capability of company.  This creative role will enhance product design across all plants within the company and will make a big impact on the process.

 

Skills:

Simulation / CAE Software and Tools

Build and administer CAD Libraries for use throughout company
Primarily software is Solidworks.

 

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Information Technology

 

Experience

A comprehensive understanding of Microsoft Office products
Experience with Epicor or similar ERP /MRP systems preferred 
Working knowledge of Solidworks PDM professional or similar PDM system required

 

Real Stuff-Day to day:

Intranet system developed by this company, can search for prints, procedures, forms, engineering standards…day to day would post things in the intranet from engineering.  Inquiries from people for people, who are looking for prints, standardize specs etc.  Development of intranet sites similar to engineering site for other functions ie. Quality, operations.  This would be a part of the day-to-day development of this site for other operations to clone the intranet version that engineering has.  When we come up with new standards, this role would format them properly and ensure that they are numbered correctly and standardize them. 

Maintain vault where all information may reside.  Name files to ensure that they can be found and link them to other documents.  Day to day maintenance.  A lot more functionality that we could be using in the current programs.  Lead the charge in helping us to figure out how to best utilize the information that we have.  Generating job ads for people out on the floor so that we could access products look at them on the screen.  Create work instructions, and send things to suppliers. 

Looking for and identifying additional tools for design capabilities.  We want to strive to be excellent in product design.  New technologies available daily.  Stay on top of new technology within design.  Look for things that make sense. 

Liaison between IT and Engineering software.  IT does not want to touch this a lot, but this role will need to work with IT to ensure that the common folders allow access to the correct people.  Making sure that we are specing out the right kind of computers…working with IT. 

 

Person will need to have an engineering background.  Network admin in Solidworks.  Needs to have an understanding of Engineering in order to be successful. Really the GO TO position.
