Production Manager

Production Management

Schedule and manage all production resources to best meet production goals and aggressive schedules as established by customers and project managers.  Communicate proactively and accurately with all internal customers.

Prioritize daily production activities within each cell; Adjust resources to balance workflow and meet deadlines.

Coordinate with engineering and senior management to implement capital improvement projects

Track, and manage productivity of all production areas to maximize capacity and efficiency.

Coordinate with purchasing and engineering staff to meet production schedule

Provide leadership for continuous improvement - identify and implement changes on an ongoing basis to improve productivity, lead-times and quality.  Empower employee teams to make changes in the shop on a consistent basis.


Personnel Management

Coordinate with Ops Mgr regarding the hiring, termination, motivation, and development of all production employees

Oversee supervision of 30+ associates and production activities. Coach/mentor foreman and cell leaders

Provide leadership to all production personnel through appropriate meetings and by setting and maintaining a positive work attitude and environment

Conduct performance evaluations and development sessions for all production employees


Safety/Quality Management

Maintain standards regarding the level of safety and quality that is expected of all employees 

Facilitate periodic toolbox meetings to foster awareness regarding safety/quality.  Maintain documents to track meetings and discussion topics 

Responsible for learning, understanding, and teaching OSHA & AWI Quality standards


Financial Responsibility

Manages production to minimize costs and maximize throughput

Maintain monthly shop tooling and supply budget.  Understand the costs associated with all shop expenditures and prioritize spending as necessary to meet shop needs within budget.


Facility Management

Maintain and direct the overall cleanliness and organization of shop.

Coordinate all plant maintenance activities.

Oversee preventative maintenance activities for the facility and all equipment.



Servant Leader – willing to get his or her hands dirty to help meet goals or teach someone.  Excited to humble themselves to go above and beyond to help and employee, pull out a grill to cook lunch for the employees, etc

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong human relational skills

A strong leader that is firm enough to call people out when they vary from company policies or good work habits

Takes ownership of this leadership role and doesn’t just pass that along to the ops manager or owners

Strong technical knowledge of our specific industry – has significant experience running a shop similar to ours or a shop that has progressed beyond us;  Can question people and knows what is feasible or not feasible, and knows what a quality product looks like

Experience recognizing quality in standard casework products, custom desks and wall panels, and high profile finishing processes

Process focused and problem solver – Can see the whole production process and recognize issues immediately and knows how to take action when necessary

Optimistic, yet realistic problem-solving approach to responding to production demands;  Looks for a way to get it down, or figures out what is needed to get it done before saying it can’t be done.

Exposure to basic lean manufacturing principles like 5S and visual management

Can see the possibilities of where our company is going and can go;  is not focused on where we are;

Has managed 15-20+ production associates before
