ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Quoting of new tooling or revisions to tooling

Coordination from initial tool design through electrode and machining concepts.

Coordinate Leadmen, Apprentices, Machinists and equipment schedules, optimizing resources to meet new tool build and tool repair due dates.

Develop, document, execute and sustain standardized best practices, systems and rules to streamline processes for elimination of wasteful practices of all tool room activity.

Implement basic levels of automation including palletizing to improve changeover time, machine utilization, improved cycle times and unattended lights-out operation.

Track and monitor job costs to meet profit targets

Develop an apprentice program and hire apprentices to build future company mold makers

Work with Program Manager to update Tool Progress Reports for new tooling.

Work with Production Manager to update and manage tool repair list

Evaluate new machining technologies and process improvements and implement as necessary to maximize equipment and software investments.

Interface with manufacturing, quality, engineering, tool room personnel, and vendors concerning tool debugging, tool design, equipment purchases, outside machining services, and operator training

Order necessary supplies for both repair and new tooling construction

Maintain tooling and department materials inventory

Assist in developing new tooling customers and sales.

Travel to customer facilities when necessary to kick off new projects, perform sales functions, sample tools, or respond to customer complaints.

Assist with the development and implementation of company goals and objectives

Hiring and termination of employees

Wage and performance reviews of tooling staff.

 

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must have served a tool and die indentured apprenticeship

3 years’ experience managing a molding building facility and 5 years’ experience as a toolmaker

Knowledge of plastic injection, zinc die-cast, or aluminum die-cast mold building.

Must understand and be able to quote new tools and projects

CNC high speed machining knowledge is essential
